The Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show and Sale celebrates its 28th Anniversary July 17, 2008 at the Old West Museum in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Converging on the CFD Old West Museum like cowboys to the rodeo arena, the artists celebrate the West’s frontier past, its culture, its magnificent scenery and the Western way of life through their impressive works of art.
This year the popular event will feature the works of 66 of the country’s top contemporary western and wildlife artists in paintings, sculptures, wood and alabaster carvings and Navajo weavings.
Growing in popularity every year, the Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show and Sale attracts artists from Nebraska to California and Montana to Arizona who all share the same passion–a love for the great American West and its heritage.
Festivities begin with a pre-view at 3:30 p.m., followed by a reception at the Wyoming Governors Mansion at 4 p.m. View the art and meet the artists from 6 - 8 p.m. A western dinner and cocktails are served throughout the evening while the Sale takes place at 8 p.m. Tickets are $145 each.
All sold and unsold art remains on display throughout Cheyenne Frontier Days, July 18 - July 27, 2008. Proceeds benefit the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum.
“The Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show and Sale is one of the most respected and prestigious western art exhibitions in the Rocky Mountain Region. We are able to attract top artists who use canvas, wood, alabaster and bronze to capture the real West,” said Jim Hearne, chairman of the Western Art Show and Sale Committee. “There isn’t a better place to see how the everyday life of the cowboy, the lives of Native Americans, and the great American West and its wildlife make an impression on these outstanding artists,” he said. “A visit to Cheyenne Frontier Days wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Old West Museum to see and experience the outstanding works of art on display.”
In addition to the sale, the CFD Western Art Show and Sale Committee produces a commemorative CFD poster and a limited edition print each year. A selected artwork featured in last year’s show is used for the limited edition print of 500 copies.
A number of the invited artists and others who attend the Show and Sale have been participants since the first Show back in 1981, but each year there are newcomers invited as organizers strive to build goodwill between the artists, collectors and committee members.
For more than a century, Cheyenne Frontier Days has preserved the western way of life, the rich traditions of the sport of rodeo, and the spirit of community involvement. Through the arts, the Western Art Show and Sale proudly takes its place among the traditions of Cheyenne Frontier Days.
