A premier cultural and historical center, the Museum offers year-round education programs and rotating historic artifact exhibits that celebrate the heritage of the American West and the thrilling history of the America’s first extreme sport.
The Museum features some of the most intriguing western artifacts in the region including one of the most extensive collections of carriages west of the Mississippi. Transport yourselves through the great adventure of the “World’s Largest Outdoor Rodeo and Western Celebration” with a visit to our permanent exhibit on the history of Cheyenne Frontier Days™. Capture the drama and romance of the very first rodeo in 1897 to unveil how CFD has grown and changed over the years. See brand new artifacts, digital interactives and displays that illustrate the trials and triumphs of Cheyenne Frontier Days™ .
Trace the history to discover the characters that bring this story to life including wild bucking stock, steadfast volunteers and don’t forget the cowboys and cowgirls. View mini-exhibits on Lane Frost and Chris LeDoux to see the artifacts that capture the lives of these rodeo legends and many more.
Marvel at the 36th Annual CFD Western Art Show and Sale that features world -class western art including paintings, bronzes, wood and alabaster created by our nation’s top cowboy artists. This breathtaking display of over 250 works of art celebrates the American West’s heritage, scenery and way of life.
A variety of cultural programs throughout the year allow visitors of all ages to step back in time and experience Cheyenne’s history against the backdrop of the modern world. Historic artifacts presented with the most modern technology invite visitors to experience history with new eyes. From the interactive children’s gallery to permanent pieces in the Museum’s collection including our extensive carriage exhibit, the museum takes the best from both worlds to give its visitors a new understanding of the old west.
The Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum is located on Carey Ave. in the Northeast corner of Frontier Park. The Museum is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during Frontier Days. Military, senior and group discounts, children 12 and under free.
